We subletted an apartment in the summer of 2015 along Clinton St in Brooklyn Heights,
making the first test batches of Jalapa, unsure of just how long our fledgling salsa
venture would afford us to stay in the Borough. Since then, we've latched on to the
fun & popularity of Smorgasburg, spent early winter mornings slinging tacos in Sunset
Park, made friends & salsa-fans out of much of Park Slope, relocated ourselves
and the occasional pop-up breakfast taco operation to Williamsburg and found a home
for our kitchen operations at Brooklyn Food Works in Bed-Stuy.
While that may not make us Brooklyn natives, our time in the borough
has deepened our appreciation and reliance on the people and community
of Brooklyn and our roots grow deeper.
The diversity of people and ideas throughout Brooklyn have provided us
a wealth of perspective and the growth and revitalization of the borough extends
to us an opportunity to build something in the heart of New York City.
From the emerging, hip spots in Williamsburg and DUMBO to the long established,
authentic eats sprinkled from Greenpoint to Sunset Park, we’re excited to bring
a little bit of Austin to the Brooklyn food scene and train a whole new population
of people to wake up craving tacos topped with fresh salsa.
